How to Cook Chinese Food (Beginner)

Posted by Bella on Jul 11, 2014 6:11:00 AM

The best way to learn is doing. Two years ago, my mother gave me a massive cookbook covering the food of China (aptly named...The Food of China) and it sat on my shelf collecting dust. Now that I am by most measures considered an adult, I've decided it's time to learn to cook some REAL Chinese food, not just reheating my millionth package of Trader Joe's Orange Chicken.

But Bella, it's so tasty!

The few times I have attempted to make Chinese food at home, I’ve found the resources on the internet lacking -- particularly for the Chinese illiterate -- and usually end up having my mom walk me through it step-by-step over the phone. My hope for this website is that it helps to fill in this gap and makes less daunting the task for those coming behind me.

If you're interested, follow along as I cook my way through The Food of China. Otherwise, at least I know my mom is reading this (hi mom!). I’ve set up Twitter and Facebook, all that good stuff, and will continue looking for ways to incorporate Snapchat tastefully.

Disclaimer: Please graciously excuse the level of photography. I am by no stretch of the imagination a photographer and am learning that in tandem to the whole cooking thing. Hopefully at least one skill improves over time.

Join me as a learn how to cook chinese food, beginner status notwithstanding.

If you know what you're doing in the kitchen, because I clearly don't, become a contributor! Otherwise, feel free to contact me with feedback, good vibes, advice, etc.
